FibroScan

FibroScan

The FibroScan is the very latest technology in non-invasive diagnostic testing for the liver. Borrowing from the capabilities of the FibroScan, our Tricity Clinic enables assessment of the liver’s stiffness and fat content, which is vital in revealing conditions like fibrosis and steatosis. The procedure facilitating such scans is effortless and short, and it significantly contributes to the early detection and continuous monitoring of liver disorders, ensuring that treatment can be administered promptly and effectively.

What is FibroScan?

FibroScan, which is also termed transient elastography, uses ultrasound to evaluate hepatic stiffness and elasticity. It accurately evaluates fibrosis and steatosis, which are commonly seen in chronic liver diseases such as hepatitis, fatty liver, and cirrhosis. Unlike conventional liver biopsies, the FibroScan procedure is non-invasive, requires no sedation, and provides results instantly.

Conditions Assessed

FibroScan serves as a vital tool in the scrutiny and surveillance of :

Chronic Hepatitis B and C: Viral Hepatitis B and C are viral infections that cause inflammation and scarring of the liver.

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): The accumulation of fat in the liver that is not related to alcohol consumption.

Alcoholic Liver Disease: Liver damage from excessive alcohol consumption.

Cirrhosis: Advanced liver scarring that results in diminished liver function.

Liver Fibrosis: Chronic liver diseases that result in increased liver scarring.

Liver Steatosis: Inflammation and fibrosis resulting from excess fat accumulation in the liver.

Procedure Details

Scheduling and Preparations:

In-depth assessment is provided by our skilled specialists in liver care.

For some patients, a brief fasting period before the procedure might be required.

Procedure:

The patient is positioned comfortably on an examination table.

A small probe is gently placed on the patient’s skin in the liver region.

This probe gently emits and receives ultrasound waves, allowing the determination of the liver’s stiffness and fat content.

The procedure is usually completed within 10-15 minutes.

Post-Procedure:

As with the biopsy, the results are available immediately for a follow-up discussion with the doctor.

Unlike a biopsy, the patient does not require any recovery time and can engage in routine activities right after the procedure.

Further investigation and follow-up, if any, will also be outlined.
